  • Raw Mango - 1
  • Grated Jaggery - 3 tbsp
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
  • Skinned black gram - 1 tbsp
  • Dry red chillies - 4
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Shredded Coconut - less than 1/2 cup
  • Salt - To taste
  • Coconut Oil - 1 tsp

Dry roast sesame seeds in a pan until you get nice aroma.

Heat coconut oil and roast fenugreek seeds till golden brown.

Then add coriander seeds, black gram, dry red chillies one by one and roast.

Add curry leaves at last and saute. Remove from flame and set aside to cool.

Powder roasted sesame seeds, roasted other ingredients along with coconut. Then add required water and grind them to fine paste.

Peel and cut mangoes into medium size pieces. Add grated jaggery and required water to it; cook.

When the mangoes are cooked well, add ground paste, salt and required water to it. Cook for few more minutes and remove from flame.

Sweet, tangy and spicy Menaskai is ready. Serve hot with idli, dosa or steamed rice or curd rice.

It is a specialty of Udupi. All weddings and functions of Brahmin community will definitely have this curry in their menu.
